Hi, I’m Crystal!

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and owner of Dare to Grow Counseling.

I received my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bellevue University in 2018 with a concentration in the treatment of childhood and adolescent disorders preceded by a bachelors in Psychology from Longwood University with a focus on Developmental Psychology. My combination of education and experience has lead to a passion for working with clients throughout various stages of life and development. Though I am from the Heart of Virginia, I have called the Outer Banks home for 9 years and have served North Carolina and the Outer Banks since beginning training as clinical counselor in 2016.

Approach

My approach to counseling uses evidenced-based treatment and light-hearted conversation to promote growth, acceptance and effectiveness. I aim to help clients gain clarity, make meaningful choices, and live in alignment with their truest selves which in turn often leads to a decrease in clinical symptoms. I take an integrative approach to understanding my clients by taking into consideration; physical health, lifestyle, family history, past experiences, environmental stressors, neurotype, & social and cultural identities when deciding how best to aid clients in navigating life’s challenges.

While I am dedicated to holding pain for the individuals I serve, I also believe counseling doesn’t have to be all tears and tissues, because of this, humor and play are at the core of the work I do. Humor and play are not just tools to lighten the mood, but powerful mechanisms to disrupt negative thought patterns, build resilience, and facilitate self-expression and self-concept. This approach allows clients to view their challenges from a different perspective, fostering a sense of empowerment and motivating them to take steps toward change.
